ere was a royal castle erected on a clump surrounded by branches of the Vistula, perhaps on the site of the former stronghold defending the crossing over the Vistula, built of brick. This castle was founded by Casimir the Great, which is confirmed by Janko of Czarnków and Długosz. Later it was probably rebuilt, destroyed by the Swedes in 1657. It was partially demolished in 1678 and finally destroyed by the Vistula, which in 1813 flooded the ruins by changing its current.
