o n the island on Lake Grodzkie in the second half of the fourteenth century, the Order of the Knights of St. John built a Gothic castle. In the past, the castle was connected to the mainland by a drawbridge, today this area is no longer an island. It consisted of residential and farm buildings surrounding a square courtyard and originally a cylindrical tower. The whole was surrounded by a perimeter wall.
Until 1648, the castle was the seat of the Teutonic Commandery, in

the seventeenth century it passed into Swedish hands, then into Prussian hands. In the eighteenth century, it was rebuilt. The buildings, defensive walls and the tower with a square base have been preserved.
