  n  the 9th century, at the mouth of the Świna River, there was a stronghold of Wolinian. In 1173, the first stronger fortifications were erected - the stronghold probably on the White Sand Mountain. It was destroyed by the Danes soon after.
In 1181, on the initiative of Bogusław I, a stronghold with brick elements was erected, and the following year comes a document that the prince described as issued in his Świny castle. This fortification also did not last long, during one of the dozens of Danish invasions from that period, the castle-castle was destroyed, and the stone foundations were dismantled and thrown into the sea. Prince Bogusław had to accept Danish sovereignty.
During the twelfth century, there is no mention of the existence or construction of fortifications. It was not until the turn of the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries that a customs chamber is mentioned, with time rebuilt into a small castle. It was located in the area of Lutycka and Karsiborska Streets.
There are no more mentions of the history of the castle, it probably ceased to exist during the fourteenth century, because while earlier there was a castrum here, at the beginning of the fifteenth century only the village on the Świna River is mentioned.
Since 1628, early modern forts have been built in this area on both sides of the river.
