t he knightly family of Wedel built a castle on the Rega River at the beginning of the fourteenth century. It was erected on an irregular plan with a courtyard. It was expanded by the Teutonic Knights, in whose hands it remained from 1384 to 1445. A cylindrical high tower was added to it, in a square base, and it was surrounded by perimeter walls and a moat.
For a short time, it was in the hands of the Pomeranian prince Bogusław VIII after 1410, and in 1445 it was ceded by the Teutonic Knights

Świdwin Castle on a postcard from the 20s of the twentieth century
of Brandenburg. In the years 1540-1808 it was the property of the Order of St. John. In these years it was rebuilt.
During the last war it burned down, and after reconstruction it houses the House of Culture. Gothic buildings, a tower and Baroque decorations have been preserved.
