i n the 9th-10th centuries, on a hill less than a kilometre from the current Książ Castle, a stronghold was established, transformed at the turn of the 13th-14th centuries into a brick castle. Krzysztof Jaworski, who conducted research here in the years 1991-1992, believes that the castle was erected by Bolko I. The castle complex consisted of the castle proper on a triangular plan and two more outer baileys located on the west side.
The castle ceased to function in the fifteenth century. In 1794 or 1797, the architect Christian W. Tischbein rebuilt the existing remains into romantic ruins for Prince Hans Heinrich VI Hochberg, who resided in nearby Książ. This reconstruction erased the traces of the former castle and for many years, until the end of the 20th century, the building was considered artificial ruins with no historical value.
