t races of the hillfort at the mouth of the Noteć River into the Warta, in a low floodplain. The original hillfort mentioned in the 10th century, standing on an earlier foundation, was rebuilt in the 11th and 12th centuries with the use of a wooden and earth structure. In the thirteenth century, it was a castellan stronghold and played a large role in the battles of district princes. In the 2nd half of the 13th century, Santok was occupied by the Brandenburg army, despite the fact that it belonged to the Greater Poland district. In the years 1278-1296 it was in the hands of Duke Przemysław II, who rebuilt the hillfort. After his death, Santok was again occupied by the Margraves of Brandenburg and in 1317 they gave it as a fief to the knightly family von Osten. Probably at that time a residential tower was erected on the hillfort,

surrounded by special fortifications in a much smaller space than the stronghold of Przemysław. In the years 1365-1370, Santok belonged to the monarchy of Casimir the Great. after whose death it was again taken over by the Brandenburgians.
