Castle in Radoszyce

t the end of the fourteenth century, Władysław Jagiełło erected a castle in Radoszyce, which replaced the previous wooden manor house, standing in the place of the current market square. The first mention of the castle comes from 1414.

A sandy hill surrounded by wetlands was chosen as the construction site, and from the town side, the defense of the site was reinforced with an irrigated moat. The main building had a rectangular plan with sides of 10.8 x 32.5 meters, it was built of brick on stone foundations. The palace and a few wooden buildings were fenced with a wooden defensive perimeter, which was completely sufficient at that time due to the surrounding swamps.

King Władysław Jagiełło visited the residence in Radoszyce regularly, as did the successive Jagiellons. The last

king to use the residence was Sigismund Augustus. Later, the castle was transformed into a grange, which became the seat of the starosta and was so until the end of its existence. In the years 1768-1789, the building was demolished, leaving only the so-called winery, which still exists today.

Currently, in the area of the former castle, there are buildings of the former forest district and manor.
