Castle in Opoczno

he location of the town in its present location was probably made by Casimir the Great before the mid-fourteenth century. There is no certainty as to the date of erection of the castle, but probably as an element of the system of town fortifications it was built at the same time as the town walls during the period of the location of the town. It was located in the southern part of the village. The first source mentions that can be associated with the castle refer to the starosts mentioned since

Due to the lack of iconography and archaeological research within the castle area, it is impossible to determine the appearance of the medieval complex. In the sixteenth century, the castle was destroyed and was not inhabited for some time, later it was rebuilt.

In 1620, an inspection was carried out in the castle, but it also does not show much about the appearance of the buildings, only the condition of several rooms, the town chancellery, the burgrave's apartment is described, and the tower without stairs is replaced.

After the destruction from the Swedish Deluge period, the castle was rebuilt, but in a significantly changed form, which blurred the previous appearance. The first plan of buildings comes from 1820, from which you can see that the castle was founded on a rectangle. In 1824, on the foundations of the earlier buildings, a new building was erected from scratch, no longer referring to the castle buildings. The building took its final form after the reconstruction

As Ryszard Rogiński writes, the secrets of the alcove are willingly connected with the castle in Opoczno by Casimir the Great. The famous Esterka, his concubine, comes from Opoczno, for whom he built a house in the market square, connecting it with the castle by the underground.
