he first mention of the castle comes from 1364, but it was probably erected at the end of the 13th century by the prince of Świdnica-Jawor Bolko I or at the beginning of the 14th century by his successor Bolko II. Among the local population, it is said that the castle was built in 1088, because such a date is engraved on the boulder in the bastion, but the typeface of the numbers shows that the inscription comes from the nineteenth century. It was built of stone on the mountain now called Zamkowa (620 m above sea level), it had the plan of an elongated broken quadrangle adapted to

the shape of the peak. The first building consisted of the highest part of the present castle and the perimeter wall. In the years 1402-1417 it was expanded, it consisted of the upper and lower castle.
After the death of Bolko II the stronghold passed into the hands of his widow - Agnes, after her death (according to the succession agreement of 1353) the duchy with the castle in Nowy Dwór in 1392 was within the borders of Bohemia. In 1434, the castle was bought by the Czettritz family, and in 1450 it became the property of the Zedlitz family for 12 years, after which it returned to the previous owners. At that time, it was also unsuccessfully besieged by the Hussites. In 1471, it was an important point in the Czech-Hungarian battles, weapons were supplied to Nowy Dwór by Świdnica, Strzegom and Jawor, because there was artillery here. After the peace was concluded, the castle was briefly in the hands of Fabian Czirnhaus in 1490, after which it was again taken over by the Czettritz family.
At the end of the 16th century, the castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance style. The residential building of the upper castle was enlarged and in order to strengthen within the wall of the lower castle, three bastions were added. In 1581, the castle was destroyed by a lightning strike and the owners, the Czettritz family, did not rebuild it, erecting a new palace at the foot of the mountain. In the seventeenth century, two bastions were added to the castle probably with a view to adapting the ruins for military purposes. Soon after, the damaged and abandoned castle fell into ruin.
To this day, the Gothic gate and fragments

of the ground floor walls with two low towers have been preserved. The vast ruins look very picturesque on a wooded hill.
