the second half of the fourteenth century, bishops of Warmia erected a Gothic castle on the Łyna River. Built on a square plan with an internal cloister courtyard, it consisted of the castle proper and the outer bailey. At the corners, it had square towers. Destroyed several times by fires, then rebuilt.
It hosted Nicolaus Copernicus at the beginning of the 16th century. It was fortified with earth fortifications at the beginning of the seventeenth century. The last bishop who had his seat here was Ignacy Krasicki. It remained in the hands of bishops for three centuries. The castle has preserved the original Gothic style with a slight Baroque reconstruction. Currently, the Warmia Museum - a branch of the Museum of Warmia and Masuria in Olsztyn.
