o n the right bank of the Białka River, there used to be a royal castle. It was located north of the escarpment on which the town was located. According to the legends of Janek of Czarnków, the castle was erected by Casimir the Great during the change of the location of the town, which used to be together with the stronghold in the area of the present village of Staromieście. This happened in the first half of the fourteenth century.
The castle stood on the hill where the cemetery is now. It probably had a tower, it was erected on a regular plan. During the 15th-17th centuries, it probably succumbed to fires together with the town. The inspection from 1662 describes the castle as destroyed and deserted, later it was rebuilt by the starost M. Rupniewski. In 1789, the castle housed the starost's office, but at the beginning of the 19th century, the castle was a ruin, which was demolished in the years 1804-1805.
