r uins of the princely castle, originally there was a castellan stronghold, mentioned in 1104 and 1155. In its place, the Opole Piasts in the 1st half of the 14th century built a castle on a quadrilateral plan with a square tower. Surrounded by walls and a moat. In the sixteenth century, it was in German hands. In the years 1558-1562, the former castle was thoroughly rebuilt.
The destruction of the castle should be associated with the reconstruction of the town fortifications in the mid-eighteenth century. Fragments of the perimeter walls, the foundations of the tower and fragments of two wings have been preserved.
For many years, there was a market square in the courtyard of the outer bailey. Currently, the perimeter walls are partially restored, and a stylized tower was erected in the place of the former castle tower.
