he castle in Janowiczki was probably erected in the first quarter of the fourteenth century by the Karwacjan family of the Zadora coat of arms. Previously, there was a fortified wooden complex here. The promontory called Zamczysko was separated by a dug ditch, and an earth rampart was built around the slopes, thus creating a dry moat. In the middle of the courtyard created in this way, a wooden square tower with a side of 5.2 meters was erected. The tower was soon replaced by a stone building, partly with a basement. This building had a plan similar to a rectangle with sides of about 19.5x14 meters and a wall thickness of over 2 meters. Unfortunately, the state of preservation and the lack of information about the appearance of the castle do not allow to determine the height of the building, but it can be assumed that it had two or three storeys.
A mention from 1404 confirms the existence of castrum at that time, but already in the mid-fifteenth century the castle ceased to exist. It is not known why, but it is possible that unreliable workmanship is involved.
Archaeological research was carried out in the years 1978-1980 and 1983-1986.
