h  e first brick fortification in Jakubów was a tower near the church. The Jakubów estate was purchased in 1260 by Hans Rechenberg. Soon after, the family erected a brick castle on the site of an early medieval hillfort.
In 1367, the Duke of Żagań and Głogów, Henry V the Iron, was imprisoned in the castle, later freed by the townspeople.
There is no information when the castle was abandoned, but the ruins were finally demolished in 1887.
