t he prince's castle was built in the Gothic style, probably in the 14th century by the Piast dynasty of Opole. It was built on a high escarpment outside the city. During the Hussite Wars in the 15th century it was destroyed and then demolished around 1561. In the years 1564-1571, on the site of the original castle, the Oppersdorffs built a castle in the Renaissance style on a horseshoe plan. This castle was expanded and rebuilt several times, in 1645-1647, then in 1649, in the Baroque style. During the Swedish wars, King John Casimir stayed in the castle. The upper and lower castles with a tower have been preserved. Currently, a branch of the Museum of Opole Silesia in Opole.
