t he buildings associated with the castle were erected by Casimir the Great. It was a brick house, which was conquered by Bartosz Wezenborg in 1382. As Janko z Czarnków and Jan Długosz write, the brick house was fortified with a palisade, which indicates that it was not well defended during Casimir the Great's time and it is difficult to classify it as a castle at that time.
It is possible that the building was not completed during the king's lifetime and the brick house was only part of the planned castle. It measures 11x30 meters. Three brick storeys were probably built on foundations created by raising a mound around the stone walls. It did not have defensive walls, and the ramparts and moat date from later times.
Since the end of the 14th century, the castle passed

through the hands of several Greater Poland families. In the 17th and 18th centuries, it belonged to the Lipski family of the Grabie coat of arms. In 1623 Andrzej Lipski built a church here, later raised to the rank of a collegiate church. In 1720 it was modernized by the Lipski family. It has survived to this day when used as a church, and the Gothic house of Casimir the Great currently serves as a rectory.
