a t the end of the 13th century, the Piast prince of Świdnica-Jawor Bolko I built a Gothic castle here, which became the seat of the Dukes of Legnica. In 1444, it passed into the private hands of the Dornhein family as a fief. After them, the Nostitz family, the Stosch family and the Dohn family had their residence here. In the first half of the 18th century, it belonged to Melchior Gottlob von Redern, who rebuilt it in the years 1728-1732. He entrusted the design and renovation work to the architect

Marcin Frantz from Rewel. A magnificent Baroque residence was built at that time, which from the medieval design retained only a quadrangular tower. The main western facade of the building in the middle is accentuated by a rectangular risalit, housing a balcony entrance portal. On this side there is also a court of honour. The entrance has double columns on both sides supporting a profiled cornice. On the south side there is a garden facade, somewhat more modest, also having a risalit, as well as ceremonial stairs leading to the garden. The tower incorporated into the building mass is crowned with a Rococo dome. During this expansion, a palace park was also established, and two outbuildings were built next to the palace. In the 19th century, the castle was restored, but during World War II it was damaged and despite being unused after the war, it fell into greater and greater ruin. In 1997 it found an owner who may take care of restoring it to its former glory.
