n ear the crossing of the Brda River a fortified settlement was situated in the 13th century. A brick or stone castle was built on its site by Kazimierz Wielki (Casmir the Great). In the times of Władysław Jagiełło the castle was captured by the knights of the Teutonic Order, but soon rescued by the king's army. Destroyed during so-called "Swedish deluge" in the mid-17th century it fell into ruin. In the late 19-th century the castle walls were completely pulled down. According to one of the historic records on the site of the castle some granaries were built. W. Brzeziński claims it untrue.
The castle was situated close to Plac Kościeleckiego (Kościelecki Square), in the place of a petrol station.
