o n the hill above the Parsęta River, already in the twelfth century, there was a princely stronghold, later the seat of the castellan. It belonged to the Duchy of Pomerania, and after its division by Bogusław IV - to the Duchy of Wołogoszcz. During the reign of Bogusław, in 1299, in the vicinity of the hillfort, to the north-east of it, the town of Białogard was located.
In 1315, Bogusław's son, Duke of Wołogoszcz Warcisław IV erected a castle on the site of the hillfort. It occupied about

1/3 of the area of the hillfort in its western part. In the highest part of the hill there was the only castle building measuring 20 x 11 meters, to the east of it there was a small courtyard surrounded by a perimeter wall.
In 1321, the castle became the seat of the vogt. In 1526 it burned down, and in the years 1535-41 it was rebuilt. During this reconstruction, the entrance was bricked up at the basement level and a wall was erected dividing it into two rooms. The view of the castle from this period is shown on the map of Eilhardus Lubinus from 1618, which shows one building with four floors and a gable roof.
After the Thirty Years' War, as a result of the Peace of Westphalia, Białogard and Gdańsk Pomerania became part of Prussia. The castle became the seat of offices. In 1780, at the request of Frederick II, the castle was demolished and a more modern building was erected for royal officials on its foundations. In this form, it survived until 1910, and in the last twenty years it functioned as a rental house. In 1910, the building burned down and after

the war damage it was demolished.
In the years 1969-1972, archaeological research was carried out in the early medieval stronghold under the direction of Eugeniusz Cnotliwy. The plan was also to cover the area of the castle, but this did not happen.
